So I have this fancy camera...now what?!

  • Each class is 1 hour except for the last one, which is 1.5 hours. 

  • Last class will be at Raven’s Roost

    CLASS 1: Camera Basics, Care, and How to Shoot on Manual Mode (Sept 21, 2024 @ 11am) - Students will learn how shutter speed, ISO, and aperture work together to create a photo. They’ll learn basics about how a camera works and how to care for their cameras. For this class, students MUST have a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera or Mirrorless Camera where they can shoot in manual mode. Please, no cell phones or film cameras. 

  • CLASS 2: Natural Lighting and Basic Composition (Oct 12, 2024 @ 11am) - Students will learn about how to use natural light to light their subjects and will learn how use photo composition rules. Additionally, students will analyze photos to see how lighting and composition work in tandem with the subject to convey story, emotion, and themes. All digital cameras welcome, including cell phone cameras. 

  • CLASS 3: Portraiture Basics and Practice (Nov 2, 2024  @ 11am) - Students will spend time solely focused on analyzing portraits and creating them. They’ll learn how subject position and body language as well as camera position and angle matter to making a portrait. Students will take turns as both the portrait subject and photographer and will practice using both studio and natural lighting to create portraits. All digital cameras welcome, including cell phone cameras.

  • CLASS 4: Landscape Basics and Practice (Nov 9, 2024 @ 5:00pm)  - Students will photograph a sunset and blue hour (twilight) together. They’ll practice experimenting with manual mode camera settings and photo composition to obtain a variety shots during and after golden hour. For this class, students MUST have a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera or Mirrorless Camera where they can shoot in manual mode. Please, no cell phones or film cameras. Recommended equipment: Tripod, 18-35mm or 24 - 70mm Zoom lens or a couple of prime lenses that are of different focal lengths (i.e. 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm).

Participants MUST Be Able to Meet at Raven's Roost in the evening before sunset & MUST have attended at least Class 1. 

Participants under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present at Raven’s Roost for the entire class.
